Remains
My friend Thalea and I had dinner at a restaurant called Yperokeanio which is near the port where ferries dock to and from the islands. After a long (and very delayed) journey from Syros to Athens we over-ordered and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
Framed pigeon at the Acropolis
The Acropolis! What a sight! My gaze is drawn to the pigeon that sits perched 156 metres above the ground, naturally framed by the gaps in the limestone.
Cat on the ledge
One of the things I like the most about Greece is the stray cats. Not just the cats themselves, but how they are protected. The locals recognise the island is also the cats’ home and approach them with respect and care. I met a man that ran a small tourist store who told me he had 15 of his own. Our conversation was paused so he could turn his taps on to provide drinking water to some of his cats that had returned after a hot day of sunbathing.
Peach
I was lucky enough to enjoy the incredible local fruit shops of Syros. Most have been there for over 50 years and run by families through generations. Peaches were inhaled four times a day.
